3 ways ANYTHING can be engaging

Thank you to everyone who replied to let me know they had received my email.

It seems many people had not been receiving it, because the mailing platform had me on a low-reputation IP address. They have since upgraded me to a higher one.

What a beautiful opportunity to learn 3 lessons in engagement!

1. ANYTHING can be made a little more engaging with a little bit of fun

I loved how many people replied saying “YES CHEF!”

It’s amazing how I now have people even more engaged, despite an email that would otherwise have been unengaging.

How might you use a little bit of fun?

2. EVERYTHING is an opportunity to engage deeper

Since people have been replying to my email, I’m in contact with people I haven’t spoken to in a while. What a joy.

Even a “screwup” of my mailing list can be an opportunity to engage with someone.

How might you make unlikely situations a chance to go deeper?

3. SOMETHING unexpected always occurs when you engage

The concept of emergence is that awesomeness comes from the interaction between things, but you can’t predict what that awesomeness might be.

I am now on a high-reputation IP address because I engaged politely with my mailing list provider, and am in contact with people about things I had forgotten — ultimately because of something that was WRONG.

It never ceases to amaze me how it happens.
