Newsletter

3 ways to engage more by doing less

Do you ever look at your inbox full of emails, your social media feed, your Teams or Slack notifications, your unread newsletters, your stack of unread books — and wonder: do I really want to add to this noise?

Luckily, we can engage more by doing less.

1. Embrace the power of repeating something old, instead of saying something new

I have loads of newsletters in my email with new ideas. But what I'd prefer is to master the old, timeless stuff. I want to get the basics right.

Resist the need to always say something new. Most people probably want to be reminded of what is old but not yet done.

2. Say it simply, rather than cleverly

Simple > Clever. Simple > Creative.

3. Resist the urge for volume, and keep it short

Somewhere along the way, people came to believe that volume = value. Not true.

I'd rather have 3 lines of value that I can implement than a looooong newsletter that I unsubscribe from because it's just too much.

Repeat. Simple. Short.

Perhaps I should’ve just said that.
