Making It Matter

Making it matter is harder than making it work.

Most things can be made to work – a product, a campaign, an event, a relationship. You can get the mechanics right, deliver what was promised, achieve the stated objectives.

But making it matter is different. It means the people involved carry something away with them. It means the experience changed something – in their thinking, their behaviour, their sense of what’s possible.

The difference between something that works and something that matters is usually the degree to which the people involved felt seen, valued, and genuinely engaged – not just processed.

That’s a higher bar. It requires more care, more preparation, more genuine interest in the people you’re serving. But it’s the only bar worth aiming for.
