Social Media, First-Mover Advantage, and Why You Should Take It

First-mover advantage is real. And in social media, it’s particularly powerful.

The reason is this: social media rewards accumulation. The person or organisation that has been consistently present, consistently useful, and consistently genuine for two years has a compounding advantage over the person who starts today.

They have relationships. They have trust. They have content that has been found and shared. They have a community that knows them.

You can’t buy any of that. You can only build it. And building it takes time.

This means that the best time to start was two years ago. The second best time is now.

But it also means that if you’re already there – if you’ve been building for a year or two – you have something genuinely valuable that your competitors can’t replicate quickly. Protect it. Develop it. Don’t take it for granted.

Social media is not a campaign. It’s an asset. And like all assets, it compounds over time if you invest consistently.
