The 5 Mindset Shifting Ways To Make 2011 Count

2010 is ending. 2011 is beginning. Five mindset shifts that I believe will make the difference.

1. From Content to Context

Stop asking ‘what should I create?’ Start asking ‘what does this person need, in this situation, right now?’ Content is abundant. Context is scarce. The people who win in 2011 are those who help people make sense of things, not those who add to the noise.

2. From Audience to Community

An audience consumes. A community contributes. Stop optimising for reach and start optimising for depth. Ten people who genuinely engage will do more for you than ten thousand who passively follow.

3. From Volume to Value

Do less, better. The pressure to produce constantly is real, but it’s also corrosive. Every piece of work you put out either adds to your reputation or dilutes it. Choose accordingly.

4. From Interesting to Interested

Stop trying to be the most interesting person in the room. Start being the most interested. Ask better questions. Listen more. The insight that makes you genuinely useful to people comes from understanding them, not from performing at them.

5. From Individual to Together

The things worth doing in 2011 cannot be done alone. Find your people. Invest in those relationships. Build something together that neither of you could build alone.
