When you don’t know what to say… say this
Ever sit at your desk and know you have to write a newsletter, communication, or social media post — and then wonder what on earth you’re meant to say?
I’ve had that feeling the last few weeks.
But when we feel such things, there is ALWAYS one thing we CAN write: remind people of what you’ve said before.
Here are three ways to remind people:
1. “It’s good to remind all of us that…”
A soft version. It’s saying that we all need reminders. You can put it in front of lots of things: our goals, our vision, the main thing, the process, the way it works.
2. “I know I’m repeating myself here, and it’s important to do so…”
This acknowledges that you’ve said it before, and you’ll keep saying it again. You can even say, “I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.”
3. “As we know…”
This skips the flagging up of repetition entirely. You just go straight to the point, with the “as we know” bit as a slight nod to this being something you’re reinforcing.
I used to apologise for repeating myself. Now I do it without apology or explanation.
We ALL need to hear the same thing over and over. You have to keep repeating it, no matter whether you think someone’s got it or not.
